Montana Silver Star Mine Radersberg, Montana

There are many old Gold and Silver mines located in the hills behind Radersberg, Mt (the home town of old time actress Myrna Loy). From what I could tell from the topographical map, this is the ruins and head frame for the Montana Silver Star Mine. The problem is that there seems to be more than one mine with that name. No matter, what I was interested in was trying to catch the loneliness of the place now, compared to when it was a going concern. Who worked here? What were they like? To me it seemed that B/W photographs set the mood. The head frame was in bright sunlight, yet with a brewing thunderstorm not too far behind. Again, I think it creates a story just waiting to be told.

The feeling I get when visiting old mining towns and old mine's remind of the poem Eldorado by Edgar Allen Poe:

Gaily bedight, A gallant knight, In sunshine and in shadow, Had journeyed long, Singing a song, In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old, This knight so bold, And o'er his heart a shadow, Fell as he found, No spot of ground, That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength, Failed him at length, He met a pilgrim shadow; "Shadow," said he ,"Where can it be, This land of Eldorado?"

"Over the mountains Of the moon, Down the Valley of the Shadow, Ride, boldly ride," The shade replied, "If you seek for Eldorado!"
